The Bible Institute was formed on November 24,
1993 as a major ecumenical Christian learning experience. In 1996 it
merged with a Bible Institute sponsored by the Holy Light Pentecostal
Church in Poughkeepsie, New York. The vision of the Hudson Valley New
Life Bible Institute is for a region-wide Institute which draws
instructors and students from among all churches in the Mid-Hudson
Valley area. Teaching material is provided by Oral Roberts
University, Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is well prepared and includes a full
range of theological, biblical and practical courses of study. In
addition, students can earn either a certificate or a diploma from the
Institute and Oral Roberts University. Evening classes are offered in
host churches in Hopewell Junction, Kingston, Matamoras (PA), Newburgh,
Poughkeepsie, Saugerties and Walden.
Our
first classes started on September 6, 1994
in Walden, New York. As of today over 213 students from more than 84
different congregations have attended classes at the Institute; four
students have received 33-credit certificates; twenty-three have earned
19-credit certificates, three have gone to major universities for
advanced theological degrees; and three have been ordained. Others
serve as elders, deacons, Sunday School teachers and other areas of
service in their local congregations.
The Hudson Valley New Life Bible Institute is
incorporated in New York State as a not-for-profit Institute. It has
two sources of funding: student tuition and grants given by churches
and individuals. It receives no funding from Oral Roberts University.
